Stockport Children's Book Award

No, I'm not up for it this year (boo hoo), but I was invited to run some workshops in Stockport Art Gallery and Central Library, to help celebrate the new shortlist and add to the excitement of the award.

I had two-hour long sessions, so we were really able to get stuck in. I did my usual talk, comparing my initial sketches to the finished book etc, then everyone created big, long drawings of dragons chasing all manner of animals.

The step-by-step demonstrations of how to create certain effects, like speed and emotion, have proved a real winner.

Both children and grown-ups (well done guys!) all worked really hard and enthusiastically, and I think everyone was genuinely excited by what they achieved.

I was especially glad it was such a successful and fun day, as I had terrible trouble getting there in the morning. There was a freight train stuck on the line between Sheffield and Stockport, so all the trains were cancelled! I had to go to Leeds, then to Manchester, then finally to Stockport. At least I got lots and lots of train drawing done!

Fantastic pics Lynne! What a great day it looked to be. How stressful, though, that awful train journey! Much as I love trains, things like this seem to happen far to often, it's so anoying....I would love to not have a car though.
Anyway, guess what? i got a job! Working in all the schools in Dumfries and Galloway as Eco Schools with Energy Co-ordinator - coolio!

Your sketches of people are beautiful. That is a skill I have yet to master. And it sounds like you are living the life you were meant to live. You have motivated me do whatever it takes to ensure that I, too, am living the kind of life that I desire.
