Back to Drawing

In many ways, it's been great just lately, with lots of unusual things going on, and all sorts of activities taking me out of the studio. But I've been missing the normal, run-of-the-mill day, spent at the drawing board. Isn't human nature funny? When I'm embroiled in a book, working to a deadline and drawing every day, I long to be out and about, doing something different!

So this morning it'll be nice to be drawing. I have a baby book idea in my head at the moment, and I'd quite like to spend a little time this week, making a start on sketching out some possibilities. It all depends on when I get the feedback for the US educational job (see An American Cover). The Thanksgiving holiday has slowed up the turnaround a little, but the artwork deadline is Friday, so I should be hearing any time.

I hate waiting though, so think I'll try to forget about it for now. Still, I know what will happen today: I will clear my desk of the US cover bit's and bobs, just get my head together and put pencil to paper to start visualising my new book ideas, and the US job will come in!!

Let's see if I'm right...

Writing/illustrating's a funny business isn't it. It's just amazing how much time can be spent waiting in anticipation...
Sometimes it feels as though we are rushed to do everyting quickly so that it meets all the deadlines - then we spend ages waiting for feedback on what we've done, then find ourselves rushing to tweak and ammend things once we get the feedback we were waiting for.
You could spend ages drumming your fingernails on the desk if you hadn't already chewed them off with frustration.
The only way to forget about all the waiting is to put it all to the back of your mind and get on with something else isn't it.

It's good to get those ideas sketched down while they are there, even if you have to put it on hold for a bit.
(I like dog/watch picture)

I've got this same problem! I've been waiting for some photos that I'm going to include in a freelance piece I've been waiting over 2 weeks for, and now that I'm moving on to drawing a game board, they're finally ready with the photography...which is what they said - but I'm still waiting...

Hope you have time to get on your baby book idea - I've got a couple of ideas gestating, but can't find the time to focus on my own stuff at the moment...

Thanks all.

It always makes me smile (grimace?)that we have so much hanging about waiting for feedback, but then so often are given about 5 minutes to do the work in! Hang on in there Isaac...
