I've had two lovely surprises this morning...
The first was the beautiful, deep coating of fine, fluffy snow all over Sheffield. OK, a bit of a nuisance for those who wanted to travel to work, but so gorgeous, you have to forgive it all that.
John's workplace was closed, so I downed-tools too, and we went for a Winter Wonderland exploration of the neighbourhood. It was really quiet, as there were no cars moving, and anyone we met waved and said hello, which reminded me of how it is on Christmas Day.
I was astonished at how thick the snow was. I scraped it back off this car, to find it standing about a foot high on the roof:
My second nice surprise was when I turned the computer on at lunchtime to discover I have had over 40,000 unique visitors to the blog since I set up a counter, less than 14 months ago. That's not just 40,000 hits, but 40,000 new people looking in, who have not been before!
I am really chuffed and truly amazed, especially when I see all the far-flung countries some folks come from: 13 from Guatemala, 10 from Albania, 6 from Mongolia, 3 from Bolivia...
I'm thinking that my 3 visitors from Barbados would have found it quite a shock if they'd opened their eyes this morning to the view that greeted me in my garden:
I bet Sheffield could give my 10 visitors from Iceland a run for their money today!
Before I go and get on with at least a token couple of hours work this afternoon, I have to show you the grumpy postbox we found this morning, with its groovy albino afro:

From an equally snowy Stalybridge, well done on your momentous visitor count! And lovely photographs :)
It's funny how snowy weather brings out camaraderie isn't it? People nod and grin at each other whilst struggling to pull home their few Tesco purchase on a sledge!
Happy snow!
Wonderful post, we have rain, not snow. How pretty and peaceful your surroundings. Your work and posts so beautiful, that people interested in you. :-)
It looks like a winter wonderland but sooo cold! Well done on getting so many visitors, here's to the next 40,000!
