Conference Weekend

Hello again - I got back safely from 'up north', but no real time to tell you about it for now, as I am off again straight away! This weekend I have been invited to speak at the SCBWI conference (Society of Children's Book Writers & Illustrators).

It's their 10 year anniversary, so the theme is Upwards and Onwards. We're celebrating with a big party on Saturday night, and I'm thrilled to bits that my chickens are going to be on the cake! They are cavorting on the souvenir booklet and fund-raising badges too.

It's all rather exciting, but just a little terrifying as, in addition to doing one of the normal 'break-out sessions', I am to be Keynote Speaker, rounding off the conference.

Though I am used to public speaking by now, I've never been invited to do something of this magnitude before, so it feels quite a honour. Author Marcus Sedgwick is the other Keynote (a properly famous person), who is kicking things off on Saturday morning. Can't wait to hear his talk.

I love conferences, so though my bits aren't until Sunday, I'll travel down to Winchester tomorrow afternoon and stay for the whole weekend. I am really looking forward to it, although I sort of wish I could swap with Marcus, so I could get the biggy over with and then relax!

Wish me luck...

I wish you luck because you ask for it, but in all honesty I know you will do the job perfectly and with great aplomb, as only you can. Have a wonderful weekend, we are proud of you
