Blog Wars...

This month, for the first time in over 3 years, my all-time, top-hitting blog post Drawing a Cat has been pipped!  Since the post went up in July 2009, I'm astounded to say that it's had over 22,000 views.

To be honest, I don't think its success has necessarily got a lot to do with me: I think there are just an awful lot of people out there wanted to learn how to draw cats, so the post gets a lot of hits from general searches. What I hope is that, once people find me, some of them stay to read a few more posts: I've put lots of links into the cat-drawing post, to tempt them to wander off their original path, further and further into the wood that is my world (cue evil, Bond-villain laugh...).

Anyway, every month the cat post is top of the pile in my stats, but this month I noticed a new champ has emerged:
How to Draw People: Sketching in Public Places is ahead, with 712 hits to the cat's 624 (a close-run thing I admit). The people-sketching post went up a year after the cat one, so at 10,537 lifetime hits so far, it still has a lot of catching up to do.

I know it's a bit childish (and I should be getting on with my work, not fiddling around on the computer, reading my blog-stats) but it's somehow quite compelling, watching the figures. Since I started writing this post for instance, the people-sketching post is ahead by 21 hits to the cat's 3... Go people, go!

I want to say a huge thank you to all you guys out there who take the time to look in on me now and then. I started this blog back in the summer of 2008, with no idea whether anybody, other than my mum, would read it. I still can't quite believe that, since then, I've had 350,000 page-views from 155,500 visitors in 184 different countries (I didn't even know there were 184 different countries!)!

So thanks again folks, and please do leave comments to tell me what you like and don't like, or if there's anything you wish I was talking about or putting on the website that I'm not.

Happy New Year everyone!

It's nice to have the stats as a reminder that your blog matters. All creatives want to know that we touch the hearts of others.

So pleased you're seeing great results from your hard work. I love reading your blog. It's great that you update it regularly, and your posts have the right level of humour, education and great illustrations.

My Mum knows one of the members of the choir you drew the other day and mentioned to me how excited they were about your sketching them and asked whether I had come across you in my work at the library, so I went on to tell her about your blog which they didn't know about. It's a small world out there!

Keep up the good work Lynne! :)

Blogging - and also looking at the figures - is completely mesmerizing. I'm from Finland and writing my blog in English but most of readers come either from Spain or South-America! I don't have any idea why but it is hilarious. Its fun to say "I'm big in Spain!" :)

But I love your blog and read it regularly. I'm illustrator (among other things) my self too so it is great to follow you're more accomplished career and works :) Thank you for blogging.

And yes I should be working on my thesis so I end up time after time here to check out blogs! Have a great day!

I really enjoy your blog. I prefer the urban sketching and sketchcrawls to the illustration/book posts, but read them all.
