Drawing Dogs

While I was visiting my mum and dad over the holidays, we came across these photos that I thought it might be fun to share. Believe it or not, this is what I looked like when I was around 18 or 19:

I can't be sure of the exact year, but I know it was before I went to university, as this is at my parents' house. I was commissioned to do a couple of animal portraits for a woman at my mum's workplace, who was potty about her dogs. It's so many year's ago, I had forgotten all about them.

Both drawings were done in black conte pencil I believe, at around A2. I was of course working from photographs, not something I generally do nowadays. I'm not at all sure I would have the patience for all that fine detail now either!

I wonder if the woman still has them on her wall, wherever she is..?

You look just as content now as you do then. Must have always known that you'd end up an illustrator...never knew you were a lefty.

Take away the hair and you really haven't changed much. How wonderful to have a well-developed talent so early; and with the confidence to take on a commission.

You are blessed to make a living at something you actually love to do, Lynne, and have show talent for all these years. That is gorgeous hair, by the way. Best wishes to you and yours for a very Happy New Year!
