Thank Goodness for a Sketchbook!

Sometimes I like to use my sketchbook as a way to help me put up with the dreadful TV John likes to watch. Even the most cring-worthy films are rendered almost OK, if you have only the corner of your mind on them and most of it concentrating on a drawing. This was Sunday night:

I started to colour it in conte, but it was destroying a not-bad sketch, so I waited and added watercolour next day, which brought it back again, although the felt pen I used couldn't seem to make up its mind if it was waterproof or not.

I did this one earlier the same day: an afternoon when the wind made it too chilly to draw outside:

I have always liked the random way windows create frames to view the outside.

Cheers to the sketchbook! I feel the same way! Your sketches are very fun! I like the view out the window.

I have the sketchbook near me when I'm watching tv, but I usually play sudoku instead. Maybe I'll pick it up tonight with your motivation?

Really nice site. Keep up the good work!

I love how window frames show off the outside world through their glass eyes. Your sketches and watercolor washes are delightful. Art is the perfect cure for boredom when creatively inclined.:)

I like your sketches so much, Lynne, especially the one of your feet as you sit relaxed in front of the TV. And I enjoyed the crocosmia drawing you posted on Urban Sketchers. They're so real looking... makes me want to go try to draw mine, though there are no flowers left.

Thank you all for the lovely feedback - it helps to know that you are all out there!

Yes Jo, the flowers on mine have already nearly gone, just a few days on. Ah well, at least I caught the moment.

Thanks Lynne! I came home from work early today for a change and thought I'd catch up on some housework... made the fatal error of checking my emails first and lo and behold, there's your email with the link to your blog and gallery. Several hours later...sod the housework, I'm off to do some drawing... so inspiring! Love all the sketches, from the bins in your garden(!) to the comparisons of sketches that are plain and then photoshopped. Love all the train characters and the travel sketches. Wonderful!

I just love your sketch through the window and the glimpse of the houses outside, I feel as if I'm sitting in the room looking out!
