A Boy or a Girl?

The hero of Bears on the Stairs is a small child, who is of course the one who's dreamt up the bears.

I've been unsure whether to do a boy or girl, as Julia doesn't specify. My first thought was a little girl, as they are so cute to draw.

However, there is an interesting issue to bear in mind: whilst girls will read books with boys or girls as heroes, boys can be reluctant to read stories about girls. It's not a problem I've had to consider much before, because animals are usefully unisex!

In the end, to maximise appeal in these difficult times, I am going with a boy and I'm please that he is still coming out pretty cute.

My wonderful (sometimes!) hubby has just given me a great idea - why not try one of the bears as a koala or a panda? Off to try it out on the fat one in the t-shirt...

Oh I love the little girl, she is really cute! Lynne, how do you do that thing like where you say 'the bears', and then when you click on it, it takes you to your bears page? I have never been able to figure that out!

...but yes, understand your point about boys not wanting to read stories about girls.

Links are very easy:

First go to the blog page you want to link back to, and copy the http address, then edit your new post and highlight the text you want to be the link.

Click the little green icon next to the text icon button above (looks like a pea with eyes)and paste in the http address you copied.

Done!

What I want to know is how you make a picture on your blog go full page when you click it - can anyone help?

I'm loving these 'roughs'. The little girl looks cute in a sugar and spice way, but the boy , although cute, had the snips and snails, and puppy dog tails look about him. I could imagine him having something 'not nice' in his pyjama pocket! Really appealing to little boys.

Lynne I just wanted to stop by and say what a wonderful collection of sketches and illustrations.
It is always a great to see the first stages of a character developing from the sketch stage.
your work is full of life and fun. a real treat.

Lovely fun characters. I like both the girl and the boy. Thanks for sharing.

I noticed if I upload a large image, blogger resizes it automatically to fit on your blog but it also links to the larger version. Try it, and I hope it works!

Thanks Edrian - how wide do you normally make it?

I think if you want to have an image be a full page when you click it - just upload a large image. Blogger will re-size it to place in the body of your blog (if you want to edit that size - go to Customize (upper right corner) then Edit HTML - it's a bit of a pain though...).

Good luck!
