Yikes: Christmas is Coming...

I've been so distracted with work stuff this year that I haven't even thought about Christmas until now. And suddenly I look up and it's everywhere!

It's the presents I fret about most. Each year I seem to spend most my time trying not to just buy things for myself instead.

The sociable bit of the holiday is what it's all about for me: the excuse to meet up with family & friends, or to recontact friends you've let slip, or to get the ball rolling with new friendships you'd like to develop.

But every year I get SOOOO uptight about the trudging round shops thing, and the all encompassing, in-your-face commercialism.

I was chatting to my brother this morning about the way, for most of us in this part of the world, there's so little left that's unique to Christmas time - we all indulge all the time anyway. He has decided to deny himself cheese over the last couple of months, so he has something special to look forward to!

By the way, if anyone is looking for a less commercial present alternative, I just came across a new charitable gift idea, a bit like the wonderful Oxfam Unwrapped scheme: you can 'give the gift of reading' this Christmas, through the National Literacy Trust. You donate £25 to provide 'books and reading inspiration for a disadvantaged child for a year'. Sounds good to me.

Great post and incredible video.
After all I was right, it is a expensive restaurants for goats, instead climbing trees to make shadows to others...Very instructive.
