I heard about her last month, while storytelling in my local library: librarians were singing her praises after a recent kids' rhyming event for them. They told me Caryl had got 6 texts published in her first year! This was so impressive, I looked her up when I got home, and found she lived just outside Sheffield in Derbyshire.
She had another event in a Sheffield library yesterday, so popped round afterwards for tea and biccies. We got on instantly and chin-wagged a very happy couple of hours away.
She showed me proof copies of her first two picture books: Don't Dip Your Chips in Your Drink, Kate! and Rhino? What Rhino? I couldn't help laughing out loud - they are both hilarious rhyming texts and the illustrators Leigh Hodgkinson and Sarah Horne have both done an outstanding job.
Both books come out next year, so look out for them: I won't be at all surprised to find some awards in the offing...
